Come Visit Our Town
Now that summer is almost apon us, why not visit this beautiful part of the world. Harwich, Essex, England. We are on the edge of John Constable country and are only 20 minutes from Flatford and Dedham. Harwich is the gateway to Europe with its ferry connections to the Hoek van Holland and beyond. Harwich and its neighbour Felixstowe opposite combine to form one of the biggest ports in Europe. We have a rich maritime history here with connections to the Mayflower. The old quarter is a conservation area with some beautiful historic buildings and museums. You will find a free tour most Saturday afternoons during the summer, starting at the h’penny pier. These tours are conducted by volunteers from the Harwich society. Also within easy reach are the Shotley peninsular and Felixstowe. Shotley is very popular with twitchers. This unspoilt area of Suffolk has lovely riverside walks, a number of traditional inns where you can enjoy a pint of ale and a meal. There are also two waterside restaurants offering good food and wide ranging scenery. There is a frequent bus service to Ipswich. Felixstowe is a charming seaside resort that has been popular with holiday makers for over a century. Shotley and Felixstowe can be reached via the Harwich foot ferry which runs a daily a daily service from 5th may to 28th September. The ferry will also take bicycles, dogs for a small fee. |
