Landscaping your back garden

By Paul Good

A garden of Eden in your Back yard!

It is all well and good to have the house of your dreams but you need to put in some effort into the garden. A beautiful garden helps to make your house into a home. Careful landscaping plays a pivotal role in this endeavor. A topiary garden system is ideal for creating a garden for birds, trees and animals.

Topiary gardening consists of a pattern of landscaping, with the use of the different size and shaped plants. One way of topiary gardening is to grow a plant in a tub or a curved shape and make it to take the shape of the object. In this way we can have a tree or shrub in the shape of an animal or inanimate object to decorate the garden.

A second idea is to make a shrub grow in the ground or a container. When the shrub has grown into a decent size, it can be trimmed and given the shape of an object or that of a round shaped tree. These shaped shrubs can be planted in the borders or on the boundary line of a garden and are used to highlight the whole area.

Topiary gardening is perfect for the creative mind. The possibilities are endless. For example you could make animal shapes and arrange them in poses together. If you have a pond, you can arrange them around the pond to make it look like they are drinking.

Draw a rough sketch of how you want your garden to look first and show it to your nearest and dearest to perhaps get their ideas as well. Choose the ideas that suit you best and go for it. You do not have to be an expert as this will be an ongoing lifetime project. Try to place the plants and shrubs in harmony with each other. Of course if you have the money, you can also consult with a professional landscaper.
