Michael Sutty

Michael Sutty is perhaps my favourite Porcelain sculptor. He is mostly remembered for military studies but he did have an eye for the ladies as well.
His attention to detail is wonderful. I have had a couple of his pieces pass through my hands. One of them was a study of a William Russel Flint subject called Ariadne. Sutty managed to reproduce the beauty of Flints water colours into a three dimensional porcelain figurine. The other piece was a Flambe Rhinocerous. Again the attention to detail is wonderful. Sutty's pieces are up there with the best of the best and in fact better than most Royal Doulton pieces. I have attached the picture of the Rhino but unfortunately I do not have the picture of Ariadne. The sculpture of Araidne does come up every once in a while at auction. You can expect to pay around £250 if you can find her. Good luck. For those of you who like the military then he was without doubt the best sculptor around. I just love his works of Wellington, Napoleon and Churchill. He even did a wonderful piece of Margaret Thatcher! Sadly though, he died in 2003 aged 66. Much more can be found if you google him.
