Organic Gardening
By Paul Good
Love Eating Naturally Grown Foods? Try growing organic produce. If you love gardening, organic gardening has to be the best option for you. Organic gardening is the latest popular method of growing fruits and vegetables without using chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Organic gardening offers several advantages over conventional or inorganic gardening. Organic gardening is special in the sense that it involves use of materials that are extracted from living things. They are in a compost or manure form. Organic fertilizers only have natural plant or animals extracts and do not contain any man made chemicals or pesticides. One of the best advantages of organic gardening is for folks who live either in single houses or high multistorey buildings and do not have the privilege of gardens. Organic cultivation allows you enjoy gardening even in the smallest of spaces. It is by far the easiest way of growing at least some basic herbs and vegetables in your home. Why is this you ask? Because you can actually use containers for organic gardens. Organic gardening in containers is a great way to fulfill your needs for organic fruits and vegetables. It cuts down on the precious time that a large vegetable garden requires and lets you avoid many of the physical problems such as in sitting down or using spades and forks. The basic principles of organic gardening start with the soil used for the organic gardening process. The idea is to feed the soil first to feed the plant. The organic gardener mixes organic matter in the soil that acts as fertilizer for the plants, by providing them necessary nutrients. If you do have the space you should be composting all of the waste food leftovers from the kitchen. All except meat I should add. In a relatively short space of time, these leftovers will compost down nicely. This compost can then be mixed with the soil. All the materials that you put in the soil will produce a nutritious organic fertilizer. After you have prepared the soil in a container or garden with the organic compost, it is ready for further cultivation. Then, the next important step of choosing the plants to be grown organically comes. Select the plants that you wish to cultivate. While buying the plants, keep in mind that the plants or seeds should be native to your area. Potatoes and Tomatoes are easy plants to begin with. The plants should not be the ones that grow in unique climactic situations. This is to have the plants that suit well to your climatic conditions so that they grow better. Choose a good location to place to plant your crops where they can received a minimum of six hours of sunlight daily. Ideally it should be early morning sunlight rather than the afternoon sunlight. You should also water organic plants more frequently than the normal garden plants. Liquid feed should also be used throughout the cropping period. Also ensure that if you are using containers that they have enough drainage. If not, there is a danger that the roots will permanently sit in water and the plants may perish.

I had always assumed that organic gardening was harder than conventional chemical-intensive gardening, requiring deeper knowledge of things like natural predators and so on. I'm pleasantly suprised to find out that I can start out with a pot on the balcony.

Thank you for sharing these gardening secrets, Paul. Pot gardening should be on the increase in todays economy. Keep up the good intels. Frederick
Good advice, if the soil is poor you will get nothing useful and that will kill your motivation forever. I agree, the soil is key.
